A specialized protein fraction (or peptide) extracted from Pumpkin seedcakes (Cucurbita Pepo)  have shown to improve the architectural arrangement of the network of elastic and collagen fibers located in the dermal matrix of the skin.  In addition, studies have shown that Cucurbita Pepo seedcakes have some properties that assist in inhibititing what has shown to be one of the causes for the collagen and elastin to deteriorate, cathepsin l. 
 
Some Science for Those Interested:
By boosting synthesis of Collgen I (the major component of the dermis between which elastic fibers are interwoven)  the re-establishment of fibroblast stability and equilibrium is established. This establishment limits the degredation (which is irreversable)  of elastic tissue which in turn reduces the synthesis of an enzyme called cathepsin L. Cathepsin L is an enzyme known for it's role in degrading protien, playing a crucial role in cellular processes. 
 
Once healthy fibroblasts are re-established they can combat damaged skin, lines and/or scaring skin by stimulating improved collagen and elastin fibers,  showing improvements in the texture, smoothness, firmness and tone of the skin. 
 
A study showed that the addition  of 2% of this botanical extract Pumpkin seedcake peptide resulted in a 69% reduction in the activity of MMP-2.MMP-2, an enzyme participating in the degradation of collagen fibers and in the breakdown of elastin. The addition of the peptide at 4% showed that after 56 days of treatment the total wrinkled surface decreaed by a significant 39%.
